Kurt Vonnegut turns black and white into a chilling shade of grey

American Howard W. Campbell, Jr., a spy during World War II, is now on trial in Israel as a Nazi war criminal. But is he really guilty? In this brilliant book rife with true gallows humor, Kurt Vonnegut turns black and white into a chilling shade of grey

Catch 22

Catch-22 by Joseph Heller (1961). Narrated by Wolfram Kandinsky.

Books On Tape, Inc. 1980, ISBN 0-7366-8962-1, unabridged,
12 Audio Cassettes (90min), reader Wolfram Kandinsky.
This recording (on cassette tape only) is currently out of print.

My favorite recording of Catch-22, read by Wolfram Kandinsky.
I decided to digitize my audio cassettes after a cassette broke.
Books On Tape, Inc. reported it is out of print and they could
not replace the cassette.

My own opinion: the Kandinsky reading captures the essence of
the book, while other readers detract, or distract, from the
essence of the book.

Transferred from cassette (Nakamichi Dragon) to CD (via
Pioneer PDR-555RW) to to MP3 (iTunes 8), 320kbps VBR.
(copy then made at 92kbps for torrent)

Catch-22 is a satirical, historical novel by the American author Joseph Heller, first published in 1961. The novel, set during the later stages of World War II from 1943 onwards, is frequently cited as one of the great literary works of the twentieth century.

The novel follows Yossarian, a U.S. Army Air Forces B-25 bombardier, and a number of other characters. Most events occur while the airmen of the fictional Fighting 256th (or "two to the fighting eighth power") Squadron are based on the island of Pianosa, in the Mediterranean Sea west of Italy

The Modern Library ranked Catch-22 as number 7 (by review panel) and as number 12 (by public) on its list of the greatest English language novels of the twentieth century.

Time Magazine puts Catch-22 in the top 100 English language modern novels (1923 onwards, unranked)

Film Choice Laurence Phelan ========== The Independent (The Independent) - Clipping Loc. 2712-24 | Added on Tuesday, December 01, 2009, 12:36 PM 251 words On Golden Pond 5.05PM FILM4 (Mark Rydell, 1981) A mawkish drama about old age and inter-generational conflict was elevated into something funny and quite lovely, thanks to the casting of Henry Fonda as the cantankerous septuagenarian at the heart of it, Jane Fonda as the daughter he never knew how to show love for, and Katharine Hepburn as the strong but tender matriarch who mediates between the two. Charade 7PM SKY MOVIES CLASSICS (Stanley Donen, 1963) Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn trade pithy lines in Paris, in a romantic comedy-thriller that is far from the best work by either of them, but still a lot of fun. Hepburn plays a rich widow being pursued by men whom her husband has double-crossed; Grant is the suave protector she meets on a skiing holiday. The Blues Brothers 11.10PM ITV4 (John Landis, 1980) The best film ever derived from a 'Saturday Night Live' sketch, this simultaneously deadpan and delirious rock'n'roll musical comedy is not quite like anything else. Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi (above) star as Jake and Elwood Blues, on a mission from God to get their band back together, while additional musical numbers are performed by Aretha Franklin and James Brown. The Baader Meinhof Complex 12.10AM SKY MOVIES PREMIERE (Uli Edel, 2008) This condenses into 150 minutes 10 years' worth of West Germany's most politically turbulent times, from the formation of the Red Army Faction amid the fervour of the anti-Vietnam student protest movement, until the suicides of its founding members in their prison cells in 1977. An exhilarating film, full of idealism. l.phelan@independent.co.uk

Wii Sports Resort Swordplay

Wii Sports Resort Swordplay

The swordplay game is top of the list because of for the first time we can wield a sword at the screen with real accuracy.

By holding the trigger button, your mii adopts a defensive stance and if your sword is set to cross your opponant's when he strikes, then you will inflict on him a period of confusion. When you can hit him.

Hit him by taking your finger off the trigger and hitting him. Think about where his sword is and whether it will block your stroke.

Power of shot. Basically it doesn't matter how hard you swipe the controller, you're going to do the same stroke with a flick of the wrist. Keep your movements small to increase the time you have to react to your opponant's moves and to save your arm energy.

Try the showdown mode, it's really good fun.

Xtranormal Review

This is a cool and very easy to use tool. Unfortunately, if you want to download your video for offline use it is (or was) cumbersome. When I did it, I needed to publish the video to YouTube, then download from YouTube, and then delete it from YouTube, as it wasn't content I wanted available to the general public. But the ease of use is incredible. Of course you offset some level of flexibility for that ease of use. The first professional project I completed with this tool, was a customer service training mini-elearning module. I used the Xtranormal characters for the exchange, rather than filming real people. Users seemed to respond well. But I suspect, like anything the over use of this or any tool... can be overkill.

7 human stories

There's a myth about there only 7 human stories, retold since the beginning of time. Each new story is merely a combination of 7 basic elements.

I've never seen a list, so I thought I'd create one.

1. Money and greed
2. Royalty
3. Running away to join the circus
4. war
5. Families broken and reunited
6. Marriage, birth, kids and death
7. Epiphany
